Truck Driving Overview

Today’s trucking industry is stronger than ever. Whether you are interested in local, regional, long-haul, or over-the-road truck driving, there are thousands of truck driving jobs available, and CVTC will help you land that job through our Truck Driving program. In 16 weeks or less, you can earn your technical diploma and get out on the open road.

Through hands-on, simulation, and online instructional experiences, you'll receive training patterned after the day-to-day demands of this career, including shifting 9-, 10-, and 13-speed transmissions, conducting the pre-trip inspection, and backing maneuvers. The program is partially taught online, offering you flexibility.

Graduates will obtain:

  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes
  • Hazardous materials, doubles/triples, and tanker endorsements if written tests are passed at DMV

Sample Courses

Truck Driving 1
Learn the laws pertaining to the operation of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV). This course also focuses on how to properly inspect and operate a CMV safely.

Truck Driving 2
Focuses on understanding the paperwork connected with the trucking industry. This course also covers communication skills and security issues.

Truck Driving 3
Students have the opportunity to plan trips and manage loading procedures. Weight distribution techniques and security issues are also discussed.

Before I came here, I’d only been driving cars for about a half a year. I didn’t even know how to drive a stick shift. The first day I was really nervous, but after the instructor showed me how to do it, I was pretty comfortable driving a truck.
