Program Description


This 520-hour training is specifically designed for potential law enforcement officers in need of meeting Wisconsin certification requirements. Annually, CVTC offers two full-time academies. The competency-based instruction meets the criteria set forth by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Training and Standards Bureau. Training is delivered through a combination of lecture, multimedia, interactive group discussion, hands-on instruction, and field exercises.

All full-time academy classes are conducted at CVTC's Criminal Justice Division in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Some training will take place outdoors and in the evening hours and weekends to simulate actual conditions.

The Academy training program is offered for:

• full-time or part-time law enforcement officers.
• graduates of the Associate Degree program.
• individuals with a minimum of sixty college credits or equivalent.

Program Admission Requirements


This program and/or the courses in it are limited to sworn police officers assigned by their department under the approval of the Department of Justice. Exceptions are granted to accept civilians under the following conditions:

•18 years of age
•Proof of U.S. citizenship (certified copy of the student's birth certificate must be presented for examination)
•High school diploma or GED
• student must submit proof of a minimum of 60 postsecondary semester credits or the Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement Associate Degree;
• student must be interviewed by the Academy Advisory Committee;
• student must submit a Wisconsin criminal history record request (DJLE250);
• upon acceptance, student must have medical exam (at his/her expense within the previous 6 months);
• controlled substance testing (at student's expense within 60 days prior to start date);
• student must have a valid driver's license;
• student must have no felony or domestic related convictions
