Program Description

The Marketing program is for individuals who are people oriented. Students will acquire the ability to make business decisions on how to best satisfy the needs and wants of customers at a profit. Marketing is vital to a firm's survival. Students learn not only professional selling but also how to make strategic marketing decisions regarding product, price, promotion, and distribution to help businesses compete in today's highly competitive market place. Students should have an interest in management, sales, marketing management, entrepreneurship, promotion, advertising, public relations, e-marketing, copywriting, creativity, and client service.

Students experience applied (hands-on) learning from class projects, speakers, tours, running their own small business, and finishing with an internship. To prepare students for a successful Marketing career, the program covers:

• customer orientation.
• knowledge and skills for dealing with customers.
• promotional and advertising methods and techniques.
• effective sales techniques.
• strategic planning for marketing.
• management skills and abilities.
• marketing research.
• small business management.
• management of a small business.
• on-the-job training with a Marketing internship.
• technology in marketing.

Marketing is the largest occupation in the United States. Between one-fourth and one-third of the entire work force performs marketing activities. There are great opportunities in sales, research, promotion/advertising, buying, distribution, and management. A business must successfully meet customer needs and sell its products or services. Marketing is more than 'selling'; it’s a diverse field with many opportunities and challenges.

We have a very active Marketing & Management Club (DECA), which we encourage you to join. The students are involved in social activities, civic projects, fund raising, and competition with other schools at the regional, state, and national level. There are many opportunities for fun and leadership.
