Descriptions Of Databases:
Badgerlink is a program supported and funded through the Department of Public Instruction-Division of Libraries, Technology and Community Learning. Its goal is to provide increased access to information for Wisconsin residents in cooperation with the state's library community. Badgerlink contains magazines, journals, newspapers and other information by providing access to the EBSCOhost periodical databases and ProQuest newspaper databases. Badgerlink also provides links to reference sites, governmental links to Wisconsin state and some federal and foreign agencies, education and library sites.
You may use Badgerlink to access the EBSCOhost database from home if your Internet Service Provider is registered. For a list of Registered ISPs click here.
EBSCOHost: Vendor: EBSCO. EBSCOhost is an online reference system accessible via the Internet. The comprehensive database ranges from general reference to business to medical and other subject specific databases. Multiple databases can be searched separately or in any combination. Over twenty databases are currently available, providing access to thousands of titles with many available in full-text. The following EBSCO products are available.
- Academic Search Elite provides full text information for over 2,000 scholarly journals covering almost every area of academic study.
- MasterFILE Premier provides full text information for more than 1,700 general reference publications covering general interest information. Included are: reference books, biographies, primary source documents and an image collection.
- Business Source Elite provides full text information for more than 1,100 scholarly business journals.
- Corporate ResourceNet provides full text information for over 1,200 journals covering trade publications, management journals and company profiles.
- Regional Business News provides full text information for over 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires within the United States.
- Health Source - Consumer Edition provides full text information for over 150 journals on consumer health related topics.
- Health Source - Nursing/Academic Edition provides full text information for more than 550 scholarly journals on many medical disciplines.
- MEDLINE provides abstracts for over 4,800 current biomedical journals.
- Clinical Pharmacology provides access to drug monographs for all U.S. prescription drugs. Drugs can be searched by their generic or brand names.
- ERIC (Educational Resource Information Center) provides citations and abstracts for over 1,000 educational related journals and full text for ERIC Digests.
- McClatchy-Tribune Collection provides a 90-day archive of nearly 290 newspapers from the McClatchy-Tribune Information Services. Among newspapers included are the Chicago Tribune, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Saint Paul Pioneer Press, and Wisconsin State Journal.
- Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.
- EBSCO Animals provides full text information on a variety of topics relating to animals.
- Middle Search Plus provides full text information for more than 140 popular magazines for middle/junior high school students.
- Primary Search provides full text information for more than 70 popular magazines for elementary school students.
- Newspaper Source provides full text information for 30 national (U.S.) and international newspapers, over 200 regional (U.S.) newspapers, plus full text television and radio news transcripts.
- Professional Development Collection provides full text information for more than 550 journals designed for professional educators.
- MAS Ultra - School Edition provides full text for over 700 popular general interest and current events publications for high school students.
- Military & Government Collection provides full text information for nearly 300 periodicals pertaining to all branches of the military and government.
- Biomedical Reference Collection: Basic provides full text information for more than 100 journals relating to medical study.
- Clinical Reference systems provides thousands of essays, many with images, covering a comprehensive list of medical information for researchers. Cross-linking between English and Spanish is available.
- Nursing and Allied Health Collection: Basic provides full text information for about 100 journals covering the areas of nursing, biomedicine, health sciences, consumer health and allied health, for nursing and allied health professionals, students, educators and researchers.
ERIC: This link will take you to the Educator's Reference Desk and provide access to the ERIC database.
ERIC (Education Resources Information Center) www.eric.ed.gov: is a database of journal and non-journal education literature. ERIC online provides a centralized web site for searching the ERIC bibliographic databases, consisting of over one million citations. Full text for thousands of non-journal documents is now available for free; previously, available through fee-based only.
Educator's Reference Desk provides resources and services to the education community. Access to resource guides, lesson plans, question archives, and a search interface to the Gateway to Educational Materials (GEM) and ERIC (Education Resources Information Center) web sites is available.
HealthSTAR: Provides bibliographic citations to the published literature covering health care delivery and administration as well as technology and research.
ProQuest: Vendor: ProQuest. ProQuest is a vendor that provides access to online information for thousands of current periodicals and newspapers. The following ProQuest products are available:
- ABI/INFORM Trade & Industry is a full text database with information covering over 1,160 periodicals and newsletters focusing on trade and industry related topics.
- AGRICOLA® this full text database is a comprehensive source of U.S. agricultural and life sciences information. It contains over 3 million bibliographic records of journal articles, monographs, theses, etc., relating to agriculture. Coverage is from 1970 to the present.
- Career and Technical Education gives full text information for over 470 periodicals covering vocational/technical curriculum.
- CINAHL® - Database of Nursing and Allied Health Literature is a cumulative index to Nursing and Allied Health literature and provides full text to more than 200 nursing and allied health journals.
- Criminal Justice Periodicals offers full text for over 75 journals in the criminal justice field.
- Ethnic NewsWatch (ENW) A comprehensive full text database in both English and Spanish, offering newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press.
- National Newspaper Abstracts offers indexing and abstracts for the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal.
- ProQuest Newspapers provides access to full text coverage for over 430 newspapers.
- ProQuest Newsstand contains over 350 full text articles from United States and International news sources.
- Advocate gives full text information from 2003 to the present.
- Chicago Sun-Times offers full text coverage of national news as well as local and regional events in Chicago and the Midwest from 1985 to present.
- Chicago Tribune makes available abstracts from 1985 to present.
- Greenwich Time contains full text information from 2003 to present.
- Hartford Courant provides full text information from 1992 to present.
- Los Angeles Times furnishes full text information from 1996 to present.
- Morning Call consists of full text information from 1984 to present.
- Newsday gives full text information from 1985 to present.
- Orlando Sentinel includes full text information from 1985 to present.
- Star Tribune (Minneapolis/St. Paul) provides full text information from 1986 to present.
- Sun Sentinel (Ft. Lauderdale) offers full text information from 1985 to present.

- Wisconsin Newsstand provides full text information for 12 Wisconsin newspapers.

- Research Library is a comprehensive database with access to journals covering a wide range of subject areas. Over 2,550 are available in full text and from 1971 to present.
