Library Instruction

Library Instruction (LI) sessions are offered to all members of the CVTC academic community. These instructional sessions are designed to promote information literacy across the curriculum. CVTC faculty, staff, and students are introduced to library resources and research skills vital to the information process. Library users are taught to identify, access, evaluate, and utilize print, electronic, and other resources to enhance the teaching and learning process. Additional information about library resources is available through brochures, guide sheets, and audiovisual or computerized tutorials.

Scheduling a Class
LI sessions can be scheduled by contacting either Kathy Goodman or Sandy Hoch.
  • Online: Use the Online LI Request Form.
  • In person: Stop at the Library Reference Desk if you are not familiar with the sessions, or have questions, and ask for assistance.
  • By phone: Requests can be taken over the phone at 833-6461 or 833-6285. Please feel free to leave a message on voice mail.
  • By email: to kgoodman@cvtc.edu or shoch@cvtc.edu.
Most LI Sessions are held in a multi-media classroom. If your classroom does not have multi-media equipment, we will arrange for a room for you.

Classes should be scheduled at least 10-14 days in advance. Multi-media rooms and staff schedules fill up quickly. Library staff will prepare handouts, design searches, and locate appropriate materials in conjunction with these sessions.

The Library staff strongly encourages instructors to accompany their students for LI sessions. Instructors add to the session by making comments or asking questions to reinforce the information that is presented. Please advise Library staff if you cannot be present.

Information regarding class assignments, course syllabi or other relevant material will help the Library staff in preparing information for the instructional session.

Faculty will receive a confirmation via e-mail listing the date, time, location and class name for each session.

The LI instructor will meet you in your classroom, or other prearranged room, prior to the start of class to set up the equipment and organize materials.

Please notify the LI instructor, if you need to reschedule or cancel your session.
