Plagiarism

What is Plagiarism?

Using another individual's ideas or words as your own without acknowledging the source is plagiarism. Students and other individuals who write research papers or assignments must be sure not to present the work of another as if it were his/her own. Although plagiarism can be unintentional or deliberate, it is inappropriate.

How Do You Avoid Plagiarism?
  • Take careful notes
  • Document all sources used
  • Give credit to another individual's ideas, opinions, and words
  • Consult writing style manuals-APA and MLA Handbook-or other reference materials for definitions and/or examples of plagiarism
