Published on Wednesday, November 04, 2009
Shelly Olson has been named the Education Director for Health at Chippewa Valley Technical College.

Olson taught radiography and medical imaging at CVTC from 1989 until 2009. During her teaching tenure, she also chaired the radiography department. Last spring she was chosen associate dean of health.

She is a 1987 graduate of CVTC in radiography. She earned a bachelor’s degree from UW-Stout in Vocational, Technical and Adult Education in 1993. She earned a master’s degree from Capella University in management and organizational leadership in 2004.

Olson’s responsibilities as an education director include, the facilitation of staff selection, budgeting, health program grant administration, overseeing program accreditation processes, assistance in student advising, working with advisory committees and monitoring statewide curriculum changes.

Olson will have oversight for health programs at Eau Claire and River Falls campuses of CVTC.

She will report to Dr. Ellen Kirking, CVTC vice president of education.

“Shelly’s experience working with faculty, students, clinical and accreditation agencies prepare her well for her new role. She will be overseeing 16 programs and supervising a wonderful group of faculty and staff,” Kirking said.

“Shelly will promote our cross-disciplinary simulation lab to many professional groups and will have to support an array of disciplines where technology is rapidly advancing. She will also be working closely with our large Dental Clinic and partners including the UW Family Medicine Clinic, Marquette University and numerous clinic sites,“ Kirking said.

“We took note of her successful guidance of the radiography program through accreditation and noted her work in coordinating a joint distance education program with Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College. Shelly is a talented health professional and leader,” Kirking said.

“Not only are we challenged with the pace of technology, the greater accountability to our accrediting bodies is an important concern. I am honored to be a part of Chippewa Valley Technical College’s leadership team as we continue to meet the area communities’ health education needs. I look forward to working with faculty and staff for our students’ educational goals,” Olson said.

Olson and her husband Bart live in New Auburn. He teaches in the Chippewa Falls school district. They have a son in college and a daughter in high school.
