How we are funded

• FTEs:

  • The term "FTE" stands for Full-Time Equivalency. Our FTEs are calculated by tracking the number of hours that each student spends in our center.

• Grants:

  • John Joadwine and Molly Craker are currently involved with several grants that fund our program:

    • AEFL (Adult Education and Family Literacy Act) Funds:

      • Academic Services Comprehensive Instructional Program

      • LEP Experience-Based Civics Education

    • GPR (General Purpose Revenue) Funds:

Assessment

• Testing

  • We use several standardized tests to monitor student progress:

    • Basic English Skills Test (BEST)
      • A 2-part literacy exam that assesses English reading and writing Proficiency.
    • BEST Plus Oral English Proficiency Test
      • A computer-assisted assessment of oral English Proficiency.
    • Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE)
      • A diagnostic test used to determine a person's skill levels and aptitudes.

  • Teaches students how to use the 52 sounds necessary to say all 540,000 English words.

  • An effective reading intervention software program for high school and adult learners.

• Rosetta Stone

  • Builds a foundation of essential language skills, focusing on vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.
