Faculty/Staff Resources
THE FOLLOWING SPECIALIZED SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE TO CVTC FACULTY/STAFF:
Copyright Policy: CVTC respects the rights of creators of copyrighted materials and appropriate educational use of such materials. CVTC's Copyright Policy is designed to educate employees about their obligations under copyright law. The Policy summarizes employees’ responsibilities for using copyrighted materials in face-to-face classes, in access-restricted online classes, and in course packs. All employees have access to CVTC's Copyright Policy and Procedures through My CVTC.
Additional Web sites that include information about copyright are listed below.
Computer Hardware at a Discount
The WTCS/Dell Employee Purchase Program allows Students, Staff and Faculty to purchase the same systems, at the same discount as the Technical College System.
Course Assignments Requiring Library Usage: If you have a class assignment prepared that requires library usage, please notify the library staff and supply a copy of the assignment. Include any particular sources you recommend and specific requirements that are needed to complete the assignment. This will allow library staff to become better prepared to assist the students with any questions they have and help they may need to complete the assignment. Library staff is often asked to interpret the instructions of an assignment, as some students do not understand what is required. Assignments that are well designed will help create a positive experience for students and library staff alike, and will encourage students' continued use of the Library. For more information, contact the library at 715-833-6285.
Interlibrary Loan: Resources that are not held at CVTC can be obtained from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Items include books, theses, music and photocopies of periodical/newspaper articles. Requested items usually arrive within 1-3 weeks. Plan ahead and allow time for obtaining these materials. To request an ILL, use the online request form or stop at the Circulation desk. You can also submit your interlibrary loan request direct via the BadgerCat/WorldCat link. From the CVTC Library home page, click on the "Search for Books & Media" button and then click on the second item "BadgerCat/WorldCat."
Library Instruction: These sessions are designed to promote information literacy across the curriculum. Library staff will demonstrate how to access, evaluate and utilize print and electronic resources. You may also direct your students to the online Library Orientation Video; a video created by library staff giving instruction on Library Services, the Proxy Server, EBSCOHost, and the Online Catalog. The video may be watched in its entirety or it may be viewed in segments. For more information on library instruction, contact the library at 715-833-6285.
Library Tours: Guided tours of the library are available upon request. These physical tours of the library facility will include information about the library's collections, services provided, library cards, equipment, etc. Participants have an opportunity to ask questions. To request a tour, use the online request form or contact the library at 715-833-6285.
Materials Acquisition: Funding is available through the library to request new books, periodicals, and audiovisual software that support program areas. Videos may be ordered for preview and/or purchase. The e-stream licensing is also handled through the library. Items purchased are cataloged and processed. You are notified when the material is available for checkout. Items will be held for you for one week before becoming available to other patrons. New faculty are encouraged to examine materials currently in the library collection. For book requests, contact Judy Johnson at 715-858-1875/
jjohnson@cvtc.edu. For audiovisual and periodical requests contact Brenda Fournier at 715-833-6265/bfournier@cvtc.edu.
Equipment Checkout: Equipment such as laptops, video projectors, and speaker phones are available for faculty and staff. Check out and return equipment at the library Circulation desk. Use the Media Services online request form on My CVTC to reserve an item.
Periodical Routing Requests: Faculty and staff may request to have professional journals routed to them. This service is provided throughout the school year. When a new issue arrives, it will be checked out for 3 weeks and sent to you via interoffice mail. If you have questions, or to request this service, please contact Brenda Fournier at 715-833-6265/
bfournier@cvtc.edu.
Reserve Library Collection: A library Reserve collection is an integral part of an academic library. This special collection, housed in a secure area, supports instructional curriculum by facilitating the availability of supplementary materials for class use. The purpose is to ensure that all students have ready access to the items. Items can include copyrighted materials such as books, periodicals, periodical articles, audiovisual and computer software and non-copyrighted items such as sample tests, lecture/lab notes. Please allow 3 days for items to be cataloged and processed before making an assignment. For more information or to place an item on Reserve, use the form on MyCVTC or contact Brenda Fournier at 715-833-6265/
bfournier@cvtc.edu.
Reference/Research: Library staff can assist you with your specific information and research needs. CVTC has an extensive general reference collection that contains encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, manuals, atlases, etc. We also have a legal reference collection that is housed separately from the general collection. In addition, there is an online chat reference service, as well as an electronic e-mail reference service for questions of a brief/factual nature. For more information or research needs, contact Judy Johnson at 715-858-1875/jjohnson@cvtc.edu.
Off-campus access to library licensed databases:
The CVTC library subscribes to online databases that, by contract, are restricted to use by current students, faculty and staff at CVTC. Users at any CVTC campus location have direct access to these resources via the library's web page. Access to the library's online databases while at home or from other off campus locations is now available via the CVTC proxy server. A proxy server is a special type of server that allows off campus access to subscription library databases. Click on the links below for information on how to access the library databases off campus.
Suggestions: If you have suggestions for additional information you would like the library to provide, please send an E-mail to the library.
