Professional drivers make decisions everyday that affect safety on our nation’s highways.
The more training professional drivers have about their options in these situations, the greater the chance they’ll have of making the best decision possible to minimize losses.
In an effort to reduce the incidence and severity of crashes involving Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV), the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has mandated strict regulations regarding licensing, training, testing and hiring of CMV drivers. Chippewa Valley Technical College offers Collision Avoidance Training (CAT) at its’ state-of-the-art Advanced Chauffeurs Range to aid companies in this area. The purpose of this training is to aid professional drivers in developing skills that are required in emergency situations.
This seven-hour CAT course offers professional drivers an opportunity to expand their knowledge and vehicle handling skills as well as becoming aware of vehicle and personal limitations. This knowledge and these skills are frequently absent from driver training.
Does a good driver get good at getting out of emergency situations? No, a good driver gets good at never getting into emergency situations!
CAT is much more than a skid pad class, though the skid pad training is usually the highlight of the class.
