Medical assistants perform
routine clinical, administrative and laboratory tasks in medical clinics. Medical

medical assistant vary based on the organization's policies and state laws.
A medical assistant's duties may vary depending on the specialty and size of the medical clinic.
Medical assistants
may be involved with some of following clinical duties:
 | Recording medical
histories and vital signs. |
 | Setting up for
and assisting the physician during examinations and procedures. |
 | Administering
oral and injectable medications. |
 | Performing
electrocardiograms (EKGs). |
 | Collecting and
preparing laboratory specimens. |
 | Sterilizing medical
instruments. |
 | Instructing patients
on medications, diet, assistive devices (e.g. crutches), and procedures. |
 | Removing sutures
and staples. |
 | Changing dressings. |
 | Maintaining supplies
and equipment. |
 | Assist with intraveneous therapy. |

 | Answering telephones. |
 | Scheduling
appointments. |
 | Completing
insurance forms. |
 | Transcribing
physician dictation. |
 | Handing billing
and bookkeeping. |
