Are the CVTC student e-mail accounts protected from virus-infected e-mail and junk e-mail?
An e-mail filtering service has been enabled for CVTC student e-mail accounts. This service prevents virus-infected e-mail and junk e-mail from reaching an in-box. At the current time this service is available for students taking a minimum of eight (8) credits and for all students taking Internet courses.
An on-line personal Message Center is created for each student where any suspicious e-mail can be reviewed. Each student receives an initial activation notice which includes instructions on accessing his/her personal Message Center. Students are encouraged to log in to the Message Center as soon as possible to review any possible legitimate messages and prevent the senders from being quarantined or "black-listed" in the future. (Initially, students might see some legitimate e-mail quarantined until the filtering service "learns" their preferences and approved senders.)
An E-Mail Filtering Service User Guide, containing general filtering service information, is provided.
Additional general information on e-mail viruses can be found at:
http://antivirus.about.com/library/ble-mail.htm?PM=ss12_antivirus.
I deleted an important e-mail message, does CVTC have a backup system for student e-mail?
CVTC does have a backup system for the student e-mail server but we cannot recover individual e-mail messages if you have deleted a message from your account. Be sure to save any important e-mail messages to your hard drive or do a print-out for a hard copy.
How much space on the server do I have available for my student e-mail account?
Every student is allocated 10 megabytes of disk space on the server for their e-mail account.
How will I know if I am running out of space on the server?
When users are within 10% of their mailbox quota, they will receive a system message notifying them that their mailbox is almost full. The message will advise you to delete some messages and warns you that once the mailbox is full, all inbound messages will be returned to the sender.
