"My Sister's Legacy of Hope and Love"
Wednesday April 23, 2003

Tricia Lenz told of the tragic loss of her sister, Susie, due to a homicide. Susie had been a best friend to Tricia. They attended classes together at University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and enjoyed talking and sharing times together.  Following Susie's death, Tricia's faith in God was shattered. How could God allow such evil to occur? How could a person maintain faith in the face of such a senseless tragedy? Tricia was unable to face the questions and closed the door on pursuing them.

Years later, a victim advocate encouraged Tricia to tell the story of her sister and the relationship Susie and Tricia had shared. Over the course of months and years, Tricia was able to come to terms with her sister's death, even meeting with Susie's murderer in the prison where he served his term.

Through these experiences, as well as much prayer and Bible searching, Tricia was able to find peace about the situation. She re-established her strong relationship with God, but with a different focus compared with before. She realized God allows bad to happen, but promises to be with us through it all. Her story is one of faith, love, and hope.

Tricia ended her remarks by showing a video with pictures of her family including many pictures of Susie.

“Ever since I fist heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for Christians everywhere, I have never stopped thanking God for you.  I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.  I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the wonderful future He has promised to those He called.  I want you to realize what a rich and glorious inheritance He has given to His people.”  -- Ephesians 1:15-18.

Scripture: Acts 17: 26-27

“From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.  God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each of us. “  --Acts 17: 26-27.
