Academic Advising & Student Success

Academic advisors assist students with developing academic plans based on their degree evaluations. Their goal is to plan the right pathway to graduation by maximizing students' potential and ensuring success based on the student's previous academic experience, career path, and responsibilities outside of being a student. Student success specialists assist students in overcoming barriers that many students encounter over their academic career. Their goal is to help students become academically successful by assisting with goal setting, interpersonal issues, success plans, and community-based referrals. Academic Support

Free academic help including drop-in tutoring, test preparation, and technology support available online and face-to-face. More information is available on Commons (Student Services & Support).

Technology Requirements

Students should have access to a computer/device with reliable Wi-Fi at home/off-campus. 

Schedule

Classes run Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. It is highly recommended that students plan on being in class every day and use their time wisely. Student success can be directly related to attendance. Technical seminars and other advanced training opportunities will be offered with demand on Fridays.

Tool Set Purchase

Students are required to purchase an approved tool set that costs approximately $1,800 from a college-approved vendor prior to starting. These tools will be used throughout the program.

Labs

This program requires students to attend all scheduled hours. Along with this is, there is an online component requiring students to have basic computer literacy skills. Students who have little or no computer skills can get help by contacting Academic Services at 715-833-6201. Academic Services offers Basic Computer Literacy training free at many locations throughout the district.

Classrooms/Computer labs

This program requires the students to use computer software to include Computer Aided Drafting/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) MasterCam, NcPLot, and PC-Dmis. This will entail learning different software, navigating a window environment and file management; to include creating folders, renaming files, and retrieving and saving files on different computers drives.

Part-Time Students

Part-time students will run into difficulty with normal progression through this program. See an academic advisor for guidance on part-time attendance.

Program Completion

This program operates on a year-round basis; therefore, summer session attendance is required. Interrupting your program may result in a wait for re-entry. Re-entry will be on a space available basis. Any adjustment in your schedule at any time requires that you contact your academic advisor at 1-800-547-2882, ext. 6346, or 715-833-6346.

Certificates

Students in the Machine Tooling Technics program have the opportunity to earn a two-year technical diploma as well as three nationally recognized credentials from the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS). One credential is earned at the end of the second semester and two credentials are is earned at the end of the third semester. The credentials certify student achievement in the following areas:

• Measurement, Materials and Safety
• CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Mill Operator
• CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Lathe Operator

Financial Aid Consideration

Courses must be part of the student�s program to be eligible although some specific courses may not be eligible for financial aid. Students must follow their program requirements to be eligible for financial aid. To be eligible for financial aid, students must maintain Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress of a 2.0 Term GPA, 2.0 Cumulative GPA, complete 67% of attempted credits each semester, and complete their program by the time 150% of the published credits have been attempted.

Title IX Pregnancy and Postpartum

CVTC does not discriminate against any student on the basis of pregnancy or related conditions and will fully comply with Title IX regulations. Absences due to medical conditions relating to pregnancy and maternity leave will be excused for as long as deemed medically necessary by a student's medical provider, and students will be given the opportunity to make up missed work.
