Understanding your student status at CVTC is important because it can determine when you can register for courses, what types of courses you can take, and the impact on your financial aid. This page outlines the student status options below:
- Pre-Program vs. Program Student
- Enrollment status based on number of credits you take (i.e., full time or part time)
Pre-Program vs Program Student
Pre-program status is given for one of two reasons:
The program is filled to capacity and you wish to begin taking your program's General Studies courses while you wait for an opening.
The program you wish to enroll in has certain admissions requirements that you need to meet before being admitted to it. While working on admission requirements, you may also take your program's General Study courses.
When your program has openings or you have completed the requirements for entry, you can become a "program" student. Being a program student allows you to register and enroll in classes that are specific to your program - we call them Core Courses.
If you are working on admissions requirements while a pre-program student, you must notify the Admissions Office when you have completed the requirements.
If you want to notify the Admission Office, fill out the Core Course Eligibility Form within My CVTC.
Enrollment Status
The financial aid office looks at the number of credits you are taking to determine your enrollment status, i.e. full time, part time. View the Financial Aid area for more information.
