2010s: Start of the Next Era

​Distance learning and programs expand.

Though the nation’s economy was improving at the start of the 2010s, the country still was considered to be in a recession because of slow growth amid downturns. Development of alternate energy sources continued to grow.  Major investments were made into increasing electricity produced by wind, solar, and digester facilities.

The ever-increasing cost of education, a decrease in state funding, and a legislative-imposed freeze on CVTC’s tax levy created an extremely difficult environment for CVTC.  In an age when dollars were scarce, student retention, graduation, and placement were of utmost importance. CVTC responded to these challenges by increasing its focus on student success.


Learning Center and new Shear Inspiration salon opens at Eau Claire’s Business Education  Center.
Remodeled student commons area at the Business Education Center is completed in August.
Record annual enrollments average more than 200,000 students statewide.
Chippewa Valley Technical College celebrates its centennial.
