Josh Thacker credits CVTC with helping him turn his life around.
After dropping out of high school and earning his HSED, Josh moved to Eau Claire. When his daughter was born, he was a janitor and realized that he needed more education to provide a good life for her.
His strong interests in music and computers created a combination for his new career.
“Then it clicked,” Josh relates. “I decided I would get involved with the Network Specialist Program at CVTC. It was the best decision I’ve ever made.”
“When I think back to my years at CVTC, I remember how much I loved being in classes with my instructors. Brian Goodman, Brian Schwahn, and Tim Fawcett were some of the best people I could’ve learned from.”
After graduating in 2009, Josh worked in Menards’ computer hardware department for six months. Then he accepted a computer support technician position with Countertops Inc., a countertop manufacturing division of Menards.
“After gaining a year’s experience in my field, the opportunities just came rolling in,” Josh says. “I got calls back on just about every resume I sent out. I was able to pick and choose the company I wanted to work for and pretty much name my price.”
Josh chose Avtex Solutions LLC, an information technology consulting firm based in Bloomington, MN, where he works today. Recently he was promoted from technical engineer to a consultant on the infrastructure team. When job openings come up, he alerts his former instructors so they can notify CVTC students.
“I absolutely love what I’m doing, and the skills I learned at CVTC have helped me in all aspects of my life, professionally and personally.”
