The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course prepares students at a basic level for all aspects of emergency medical care, both medical and trauma situations. Students will gain knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- anatomy and physiology
- patient assessment
- fractures and dislocations
- spinal injuries
- soft-tissue wounds
- ambulance operations
This 5 credit course adheres to all national and state guidelines. Curriculum utilized is the 2012 State of Wisconsin EMT Basic: A Practice-Based Approach to EMS Education, which adheres to national EMS education standards. This course is offered in a hybrid format with classroom and online components.
You must complete one of the below CPR training courses before the class begins:
American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
American Red Cross (CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer)
American Safety and Health Institute (includes Medic First Aid – CPR for the Professional Rescuer )

All materials must be purchased before the first class session. They may be purchased at the CVTC Bookstore.
All students are required to purchase a CVTC uniform shirt. This shirt will be worn for all class sessions and in clinicals. Shirts will be ordered during one of the first class sessions for approximately $20.
