How to Register

Priority registration is given to students admitted to a program. All others must wait until open registration dates.

Next Steps

Upon successful completion of the course, students can participate in the National Registry of EMTs written and practical exam.

The written exam is $70 and is offered at a Pearson Vue testing site. The practical exam is $100 and offered at CVTC. More information will be provided during the course.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course prepares students at a basic level for all aspects of emergency medical care, both medical and trauma situations. Students will gain knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • anatomy and physiology
  • patient assessment
  • fractures and dislocations
  • spinal injuries
  • soft-tissue wounds
  • ambulance operations

This 5 credit course adheres to all national and state guidelines. Curriculum utilized is the 2012 State of Wisconsin EMT Basic: A Practice-Based Approach to EMS Education, which adheres to national EMS education standards. This course is offered in a hybrid format with classroom and online components.

Requirements

CPR Training

You must complete one of the below CPR training courses before the class begins:

  • American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • American Red Cross (CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer)
  • American Safety and Health Institute (includes Medic First Aid – CPR for the Professional Rescuer )
  • Emergency Care and Safety Institute - (AAOS – Professional Rescuer CPR)
  • EMS Safety Services (CPR and AED for Professional Rescuers)
  • National Safety Council (BLS: Healthcare and Professional Rescuer)
  • ProTrainings, LLC (ProCPR for Healthcare Providers)

Textbooks, Workbooks, and Training Materials

All materials must be purchased before the first class session. They may be purchased at the CVTC Bookstore.

Uniforms

All students are required to purchase a CVTC uniform shirt. This shirt will be worn for all class sessions and in clinicals. Shirts will be ordered during one of the first class sessions for approximately $20. 

Clinical

This course includes a clinical component. Before you begin your clinical experience, you must complete the following forms:

  • Complete a Wisconsin Criminal Background Check and Background Information Disclosure Form through CertifiedBackground.com. A $34 background check fee will be required at the time of your order. Please be sure to order early as it can take 3 to 5 business days and on occasion longer to process your request. To place your order, please follow these Criminal Background Check Instructions. You will be required to bring a copy of both your criminal background check results and your Background Information Disclosure form to your EMT instructor the first week of class. If you have recently applied for a program at CVTC that required the completion of a criminal background check and there have not been any changes to your background, you may bring a copy of those background check results with you to class.
