Community Workshops

Join us for a four-part series designed to help job-seekers learn how to make the best impression at all phases of the interview process so that they reach their ultimate objective - a job offer!

Sessions are led by HR professionals from Chippewa Valley employers, participants will learn how to craft an ideal resume, network for success, and appropriate interview etiquette.

Registration at all 4 sessions is preferred and strongly encouraged. There is no cost to attend the program, but registration is required. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to attend all 4 sessions.

Session 1 – Let’s Talk about Hiring

In this session, participants will get an overview of the hiring process from an employer’s perspective. At the end of the session, participants will have a better understanding of how the process works, who key decision makers are within the hiring process, and what employers are looking for at different points of the consideration and interview process. Facilitators will cover the following topics:

  • The importance of first impressions
  • Job Search Resources
  • How to Get Experience and/or Keep Skills Current
  • Attitude

Session 2 – Selling Yourself

In this session, participants will learn that how to “sell” themselves in their resume and during an interview. The word “sales” can often bring a variety of negative thoughts and for many people, helping employers to see the value they can bring to the organization is challenging. Participants will learn:

  • How to highlight transferrable skills from one job or industry to another
  • Create an “elevator pitch” to talk with others about your job search goals
  • How to showcase your work
  • The importance of networking and how to network effectively (even when you are not a sales person)
  • Overview of an effective resume that sells your skills and qualifications

Session 3 – Interview Etiquette and Job Offers – Preparing for Success!

In this session, participants will learn how to be successful during the interview (phone interviews and in person interviews). Facilitators will review common interview questions and discuss best ways to answer as well as general interview etiquette (including follow up). At the end of the event, CV SHRM members will join the group for a networking event so participants can meet a variety of HR professionals and practice their networking skills learned in sessions 2 and 3. Highlights include:

  • Appropriate Follow Up
  • What to expect during the process
  • The Job Offer – How to discuss and what questions to ask
  • Networking Event

Session 4 – Putting it All Together

In this session, participants will have an opportunity to sit down with HR professionals one on one to get practical feedback on their resume, interview skills, and networking. This is a great opportunity to network with those who do hiring in order to get individual feedback for putting your best foot forward.
