English Language Learning (ELL)

Do you need to improve your English skills?​

Our English Language Learning (ELL) classes teach adults whose native language is not English how to read, write and communicate in English. Instruction includes an array of curriculum utilizing audio, computer, workbook and conversational materials, and some off-campus field trips.

All ELL classes are non-credit and offered tuition free. Materials are available for use in class and several of our textbooks are available for purchase in CVTC’s bookstore.

All classes are offered in the Business Education Center (BEC) at the Eau Claire Campus.

Getting Started 

To get started you need to attend an orientation session. At these sessions you will receive information about our classes, receive registration information, and take the TABE CLAS-E Assessment, which will assess your knowledge of the English language.

Important Information:

  • Please sign up for your orientation in advance, as sessions are canceled if there are no attendees signed up.
  • You are required to attend the entire orientation.
  • The session can take up to 2-3 hours, so please plan accordingly.
  • You are welcome to bring an English speaker with you to assist with interpretation.
  • Due to CVTC policy, no children are allowed at the orientation session.
  • Test results are used for course placement and can be requested when you return for class.
  • There is no fee to take the TABE CLAS-E test or to attend ELL classes.
  • You can park in the P7 Pay-Per-Hour Gate Lot for 75 cents per hour or purchase a parking pass.
