Small Business Marketing Series

Small Business Marketing Series

Marketing—connecting customers to a product or service—has existed for centuries. In today's world, how we connect customers to our product or service is constantly changing and serves many businesses with a challenge. How can you keep up with new tools, social platforms, algorithms, brand stories, product promotions, and influencer marketing? The Small Business Marketing Series is designed for small business marketers or owners who need to maximize their marketing efforts within their resources without being distracted by all the "shiny objects" in marketing. This entry-level series covers website management, e-commerce, search engine optimization, social media, and basic marketing analytics. Bring your questions and projects, and interact with the instructor, who will help you apply your learning to your real-life work!

Who should attend this series?

  • Entry-level marketing professionals and students
  • Web/graphic designers
  • Small business owners
  • Administrative professionals
  • Content creators

This series focuses on the following topics:

1. Managing Your Company's Website (2-Hour Course) (New)Your company's website is the gateway for customers, partners, donors, sponsors, etc., to learn about, interact with, and buy from your company. For some businesses, the website is the only interaction they'll have with your company before deciding to buy from or support you. Without a strategy for managing this valuable tool in your business, you're leaving much up to chance. In this entry-level course, you will understand your content management platform and its capabilities, manage digital content, images, and video, resolve common technical issues, legally and ethically collect and manage personal data, and report on basic website analytics. Please bring details about your current website to class if you can.

2. Optimizing Your Online Store (2-Hour Course) (New)Welcome to online retail! Selling products online takes a lot of work! While today's e-commerce platforms make it much easier than starting from scratch, a lot must be done to organize your products, display them effectively, attract customers, and get buyers to hit the 'Place Order' button. From when they read a product description to when they choose their shipping selection, every step counts in e-commerce. This entry-level course will cover organizing and optimizing your products based on customer needs and behavior, pricing and promo codes, shipping and return policies, and some tips on marketing your online store. We'll look live at your e-commerce stores and provide some immediate takeaways you can start working on.

3. SEO Basics (2-Hour Course) (Revised)Help your business' website be discovered via search engines like Google by enhancing your search engine optimization (SEO). Learn the basics of SEO and come away with a checklist to optimize new and existing content over time.

4. Social Media Marketing Basics (2-Hour Course) (Revised)Explore the dynamic landscape of social media marketing, delving into platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and emerging channels and learn how to leverage these platforms strategically to establish genuine connections with your target audience, fostering a sense of familiarity, affinity, and trust in your business. Attendees will acquire valuable insights and practical skills, equipping them with a customized social media planning guide to effectively navigate and capitalize on these digital platforms' diverse opportunities.

5. Basic Marketing Analytics (2-Hour Course) (New)Measuring marketing effectiveness is not a simple task, but there are some simple reports and data points that you can review over time to gauge the performance of various campaigns, messages, or channels. In this course, we'll take a look at marketing analytics reports from websites, email marketing platforms, and social media accounts to give you a basic understanding of what the reports look like, which metrics to pay attention to, and how to identify trends, develop insights, and make better decisions based on marketing data.
