Minimum Department Requirements

​Each fire department has different requirements for employment. There are several general requirements that apply to all departments:

 

  
Minimum Requirements
Antigo

State of Wisconsin Firefighter I or equivalent.

Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedic (or eligible for these credentials).

Residency restriction.

No Tobacco Use Policy.

Ashland

State of Wisconsin Firefighter I or equivalent.

Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedic (or eligible for these credentials).

 

 

Chippewa Falls Fire and Emergency Services

State of Wisconsin Firefighter II or equivalent.

Nationally Registered or State of Wisconsin licensed EMT-Paramedic (or eligible for these credentials).

 

 
 
Chippewa Fire District

State of Wisconsin Firefighter II or equivalent.

Nationally Registered or State of Wisconsin licensed EMT-Paramedic (or eligible for these credentials).

 

 

 

Eau Claire

Nationally Registered or State of Wisconsin EMT-Paramedic licensure (or eligible for these credentials).

State of Wisconsin Firefighter I or equivalent and Firefighter II within one year after hire date.

 

La Crosse

Minimum Nationally Registered or State of Wisconsin EMT-Basic licensure.

EMT/Paramedic Preferred.

State of Wisconsin Firefighter II or equivalent.

Preferred associate degree in Fire Protection or related field.

Minimum age 21 years old.

 

Marshfield

Associate Degree in Fire Protection or related field.

Marshfield Fire and Rescue hires EMT-Basics with Firefighter II certification and EMT-Paramedics with Firefighter I certification. Licensure requirements are:

Firefighter/EMT-B: National Registry or State Licensure as EMT-B (or eligible for these credentials).

Firefighter/EMT-P: National Registry or State Licensure as EMT-P (or eligible for these credentials).

 

 

 

Menomonie
Nationally Registered or State of Wisconsin EMT-Paramedic (or eligible for these credentials).
State of Wisconsin Firefighter II or equivalent.
Onalaska

State of Wisconsin Firefighter II.

State of Wisconsin licensed EMT-Basic.

Hazardous Materials Technician.

 

 

Red Wing

Firefighter II Certification (IFSAC Accredited, if not a Minnesota certificate).

Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedic (or eligible for these credentials).

Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) must be submitted with application or received within six months of hire.

 

 

 

Rhinelander

State of Wisconsin Firefighter II or equivalent.

Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedic.

 

 

Stevens Point

Associate degree (Fire Protection, Fire Science, Paramedic, or related field preferred)

- OR -

minimum of 50 college-level credits (Fire Science or related field preferred).

Nationally Registered and State of Wisconsin licensed EMT-Paramedic or eligible for same. Must have National Registry to receive offer of employment.

Firefighter II certification (WTCS Board or IFSAC Accredited).

Driver/Operator Pumper and Aerial certification preferred.
