Candidate Physical Ability Test

CPAT and the Regional Hiring Process

In order to submit an application to one of the departments participating in the Region Fire Department hiring process, you must have taken the CPAT exam at a licensed facility after October 29, 2011. You must submit verification from the testing site to CVTC with your application. We will not accept CPAT verification that will occur after your application has been submitted.

If you need to complete the CPAT, follow the steps below.

  1. Register by sending in a form to the address below. View form.
  2. Pay the $100.00 fee via credit card on the registration form, or send a check made out to Chippewa Valley Technical College.
  3. Attend an 8-week Preparation Course.
    Attendance is optional, but you MUST complete the CPAT waiver if you choose not to attend. View waiver.

The Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) is a sequence of eight events requiring you to progress along a predetermined path from event to event in a continuous manner. This test was developed to allow fire departments to find pools of trainable candidates who are physically able to perform essential job tasks at fire scenes.
