Step Two - Submit FAFSA

The most important step in finding out if you are eligible to receive financial aid is to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Many students who could receive financial assistance to attend college miss out because they don't complete the FAFSA. This may include funds that don't require repayment. For this reason, we encourage all students to fill out a FAFSA at www.FAFSA.gov as soon as their annual Federal tax returns are completed.

Follow the steps below to submit your FAFSA.

one

Get Organized

Have the following information handy before you start the submission process:

  • Social Security Number
  • Driver's License
  • Federal Income Tax Return (if required by law to file) for student and parent (if student is dependent)
  • Bank Statements
  • Investment Records
two

Apply for PIN

In order to sign your FAFSA electronically, you'll need a Personal Identification Number (PIN) from the Department of Education. Both the student and parent (if student is dependent) need a PIN.

  • To request or re-request a PIN, go to www.pin.ed.gov.
  • After you get your PIN you can proceed with applying for financial aid online.

Submit Your FAFSA

You're now ready to begin the application process.

NEW! It is important to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when filling out your FAFSA.  If you do not use this tool to provide tax information and CVTC requests a copy of your tax return or your parents’ tax return, you may be required to obtain an official tax transcript from the IRS. We can no longer accept copies of Federal Tax Returns.  More information on this process can be found online at IRS Data Retrieval Tool.

You can apply online at www.FAFSA.gov

CVTC's Federal school code is 005304.
