Students Gain Valuable Experience Running Store

Bridgeport Gifts and Apparel is now open!  Third-semester Marketing students in Entrepreneurial Marketing and Management operate the store for one semester.  The 21 students in the course are divided into teams (Human Resources; Promotions; Merchandise; and Sales, Inventory, and Buying) and are responsible for all aspects of the store’s operation.  Students put in eight hours a week in the store.

Students went on a buying trip to the Minneapolis Gift Market in January to select and purchase gift items for the store.  CVTC apparel that the store offers is purchased locally, and a local artist makes some of the jewelry that Bridgeport carries.

According to Marketing Instructor Carol Robarge, “The goal of the experience is to apply the functions of marketing and management.  Students get real-world experience by operating the store, plus they learn the importance of working together as a team.”

Bridgeport Gifts and Apparel offers a wide variety of merchandise, including home and garden items, picture frames, candles, greeting cards, baby items, sauces, mixes, kitchen things, hats, purses, coffee mugs and a whole lot more.

The store, located in BEC213, is open Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
