CVTC named veteran-friendly school

CVTC has been honored before for its work with veterans. Here, Veterans Officer Deb Ludwikowski receives an award for her exemplary service from Joseph Schmitt, executive director of the federal executive board in Minneapolis.

Eau Claire, WI - Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) has been named a Military Friendly School for 2014.

The Military Friendly School designation by Victory Media is awarded to the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students and ensure their success in the classroom and after graduation. The list serves as a resource for service members and military families seeking education and has played a significant role over the past five years in advancing best practices in supporting military students on campuses across the country.

The designation is the second military-related honor CVTC has received this year. In May, Deb Ludwikowski, a registration/records assistant in the Registrar’s office who handles relations with veterans attending CVTC, received a Federal Certificate of Appreciation from the Federal Executive Board for her outstanding work with veterans.

“I help them apply for their benefits and work as a go-between if there are payment issues with the Veterans Administration. I’m a point of reference for them,” Ludwikowski said last week at an open house for veterans held at CVTC’s Business Education Center in Eau Claire.

The open house is an example of the services CVTC provides for veterans. Representatives of veterans organizations were present to provide information to CVTC’s veterans, and the event also served as a social function.

“By attending, the veterans see other veterans attending the college. It introduces them to each other,” Ludwikowski said.

The 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through research and a survey of more than 10,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. The survey results that comprise the 2014 list were independently tested. The school survey, methodology, criteria and weightings are developed by Victory Media with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country.

Victory Media is a veteran-owned small business and has been serving the military community since 2001.

Chippewa Valley Technical College delivers superior, progressive technical education which improves the lives of students, meets the workforce needs of the region, and strengthens the larger community. Campuses are located in Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, Menomonie, Neillsville and River Falls. CVTC serves an 11-county area in west central Wisconsin. CVTC is part of the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and is one of 16 WTCS colleges located throughout the state.
