Sixteen students recently graduated from the Healthcare Academy. The two-week academy was designed to provide students with the resources needed to explore careers in the healthcare field. The academy introduced students to several different healthcare career options, training and employment requirements.

“The academy has been a collaborative effort among many local organizations. We are all extremely excited for the students as they continue on their career pathway. More than half of the students have chosen to continue their education with the Medical Office Receptionist and CNA/ Geriatrics options available through the Bridges2Healthcare grant,” stated Brenda Scheurer, Career Pathway coordinator at Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC).

“I worked in medical billing for years, but lost my job in April,” stated Tina Bradford, one of the Healthcare Academy grads. “These last few weeks have opened my eyes to more opportunities and how I can further my education to jumpstart my career again. I’m excited to see what the future holds for me.”

“When CVTC received the $1.9 million from the Department of Labor for the Bridges2Healthcare grant, staff was very excited to get started on the work they knew would make a difference,” stated Margo Keys, vice president of Student Services. “Now, all their hard work is paying off for those students who are taking advantage of the services offered. It’s an exciting time for everyone involved.

The Bridges2Healthcare grant targets displaced workers with the goal of improving the necessary knowledge, skills and credentials to achieve well-paying employment. The funding was awarded through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) initiative.
