Paralegal Program

Paralegals use legal knowledge and skills to assist lawyers in preparing legal forms and documents. While they cannot practice law, paralegals may research the law and investigate facts.

Paralegals work under the supervision of lawyers in private law offices, corporate legal departments, insurance companies, real estate office, financial institutions, and government offices and agencies. Job titles may include: arbitrator, case coordinator, child welfare advocate, claims adjuster, court administrator, credit investigator, land title examiner and abstractor, mediator, insurance agent, office manager, victim/witness advocate.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the paralegal profession is anticipated to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2014.

The Paralegal Program at Chippewa Valley Technical College provides:

• Knowledge of federal and state statutes
• Knowledge of federal and state case law
• Knowledge of legal and paralegal ethics
• Knowledge of legal databases
• Knowledge of legal documents
• Development of analytical abilities

A Paralegal Internship during the student's last semester of study will offer the student practical experience working in a legal environment.
An Associate Degree in Paralegal upon successful completion of courses

The Associate Degree in Paralegal at Chippewa Valley Technical College is approved by the American Bar Association.
