Repayment of Financial Aid if a Student Withdraws

Official Withdrawals:

If a student officially withdraws before sixty percent (60%) of the term is complete or drops a class before the start date, the student might have to repay unearned financial aid. Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) will determine the amount of unearned financial aid, and the Business Office will notify the student of any outstanding balance.

If a student officially withdraws once 60% of the term is complete, the student will have earned his/her aid for the term; and there is no repayment of financial aid.

Unofficial Withdrawals:

If a student stops attending class and received all Fs for the term, the student will be considered an "unofficial withdrawal"; and CVTC will determine the amount of financial aid that must be repaid. We will use the mid-point of the term to determine the unearned aid. The Business Office will notify the student of any outstanding balance.

Verified Attendance:

If a student received all Fs for a term, but attended at least one (1) class the entire term and "earned" the grade of F, the student will not be considered an unofficial withdrawal if he/she completes the following:

  • Prints a Verification of Attendance form;
  • Has an instructor from one of the classes he/she attended the entire term complete and sign the form; and
  • Returns the form to the Financial Aid Office within one (1) week after the term ends.

Specific submission deadlines for verified attendance will be published in the CVTC Student E-Notes and on My CVTC as a college announcement.
