Renal Dialysis Technician

Renal DialysisThe Renal Dialysis Technician (RDT) program is a one year technical-diploma program.  Renal dialysis technicians work in dialysis units located in hospitals, clinics, and free standing buildings.  Dialysis technicians care for patients while they are on hemodialysis.  The RDT also learns how to operate the dialysis machine, insert needles in the patient's access and manage the patient while on hemodialysis.  Dialysis technicians work very closely with registered nurses (RN's).

Instruction in the program includes lecture, lab and clinical time.  Students receive hands-on experience in the lab as well as in a dialysis center.  This gives the student the opportunity to apply the principles and practices learned in the classroom.
