Electrical Power Distribution

Electrical Power DistributionThe Electrical Power Distribution (EPD) program leads to employment with electrical power providers and line construction companies with emphasis on electrical line work. The program provides fundamentals of electrical theory and application of electrical equipment with emphasis on safety. Instruction is divided between classroom and outdoor lab activities.

Program Highlights

  • operate line equipment
  • climb distribution and transmission structures
  • build and maintain overhead and underground power lines
  • install transformers, capacitors, and KWH meters
  • use protective equipment such as fuses, circuit breakers, and lightning arrestors
  • tie rope knots and make rope splices
  • operate hydraulic equipment such as aerial lift trucks, digger/derrick trucks, and trencher/backhoes
  • practice hotline maintenance
  • perform first aid and CPR
