Value Stream Mapping
- Description
A Value Stream Map is a powerful tool used to map out both the material and information flow for any manufacturing or administrative process. This powerful tool allows companies to map the flow of products in the back door as raw material, through all manufacturing process steps, and off the loading dock as finished product. You learn to "see the flow" of your product from start to finish; this is the Value Stream. Begin the journey with the current state map-it shows you where you are. Then, you plan your Lean journey with a future state map-it shows you where you're going and how you're going to get there. Based on your Value Stream Map, you can streamline work processes, thereby cutting lead times and reducing operating costs.
- Benefits
- You can "see the flow" of your Value Stream and identify the waste
- All products are viewed from an overall system perspective.
- Draw both material and information flows of your Value Stream
- Draw a blueprint for Lean transformation-the Future State Map
- Prioritize activities needed to achieve the Future State
- Options
One-Day Workshop: LE202
Using a detailed case study for Acme Stamping Company, you will - hands-on, develop the current state map. After applying lean value stream principles and developing a future state map, you will implement the action plan to get you to that desired future state.
Value Stream Mapping Event: LE302
Held on-site at your facility, the event incorporates a workshop and development of a Value Stream Map, which includes an action plan. The event is held over a three day time period, and involves a cross functional team of 5-8 of your employees.
Note: The one-day workshop "Principles of Lean Manufacturing" prior to a Value Stream Mapping workshop or on-site event helps develop a strong foundation in Lean Principles.
