Tests and Quizzes

No more number two pencils! Taking a test in Blackboard is as simple as clicking on the underlined name of the test. Instructors can choose from several testing options.  None of these options can be seen until after you are actually in the test unless the instructor describes it in the test description. When you click into the test, note the instructions fields at the top of the test. See the list below for information about the options.

  • Multiple attempts - often used for quizzes or "homework" type tests.  You can take the test unlimited times or a certain number of times (instructor chooses a number).
  • Force completion - must be completed the first time it is opened (cannot be saved and finished later).
  • Timed – you have a timed window in which to complete the test.
  • Password - you must have a password to access the test. Proctored exams always have a password.
  • Feedback - the instructor chooses to display the correct answers to the test.  Often they will not show the correct answers until all of the students have completed the test.
  • Presentation mode - instructors choose to have the test open inside of Blackboard or in a new window. They will also choose to show all the questions at once or one at a time. They often will randomize the questions (so the order is not the same for all students).
