Eau Claire Ceremony Information


The Graduation Ceremony is at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at UWEC Zorn Arena. Map of Area

To participate in the ceremony graduates must purchase a cap, gown, and tassel ($27.50) at the CVTC Bookstore. Graduation announcements are also available for purchase at the Bookstore.

The ceremony is open to the public - no tickets are necessary. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. Please arrive early if special seating is required or preferred.

Wheel chair accommodations for Graduates or guests need to be requested by contacting the Student Life Office (715-833-6266) prior to 4 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2009.

Parking is free and will be available in any UWEC Student or Faculty parking lot. On-street parking will also be available.

A professional photographer will be taking cap and gown portraits from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. For your convenience, photographs will also be taken of all Graduates as they receive their diplomas. Proofs will be mailed approximately three (3) weeks after the ceremony.

A RECEPTION to honor Graduates will follow the Ceremony. All Graduates and guests are welcome.

For those not attending the ceremony: Tassels may be purchased, individually, at the CVTC Bookstore. Diploma covers will be available, free of charge, at the Student Life Office, BEC 115.

Diplomas and/or degrees will be mailed approximately ten (10) weeks following the ceremony. If your address changes during this time, notify the Information Service Center at 715-833-6200.

Ceremony Directions for Graduates


Please arrive for line-up no later than 6:30 p.m. Once you arrive,
  • Obtain your Name Card from the check-in table.
  • Locate your Program Card in the hallway.
  • Line up alphabetically, by last name, within your program.
  • First person in the Program carries the Program Card (Remove card attached to wall).
  • Stay in the hallway until Ushers direct Graduates to the arena.
  • Tassels are to be worn on the right side of the mortarboard cap.
  • Ushers, dressed in red robes, will be available to assist you.
  • There will not be a place to store personal belongings during the ceremony. Please leave coats, purses, etc. with family and friends.
  • Family and friends are not allowed in the Graduate line up area.
What do Graduates do once the ceremony begins?
  • Graduates should remain standing until all have entered the arena; at that time you will be directed to be seated.
  • After the Commencement Speakers, graduates will be asked to stand.
  • Once the president confers your degree you will be asked to be seated and the Ushers will direct you to the stage row by row.
  • Remember to bring your Name Card - and Program Card, if you are the first person in your program.
  • The first person in each program will hand the Program Card to the Announcer. This will indicate to the Announcer when a new program is starting.
  • Pronounce your name as you hand your Name Card to the Announcer.
  • If you are a double major also mention this to the Announcer.
  • As your name is read, cross the stage to shake hands and receive diploma.
  • A professional photographer will take your picture - pause and smile!
  • The Ushers will direct you back to your seat.
  • At the end of the ceremony, the President will ask all graduates to stand and move the tassel on their cap from right to left.
  • People on the stage will leave first.
  • The Ushers will then direct graduates out of the arena.
  • Continue to follow the Ushers through the hallway to alleviate congestion at the entrance to the arena.
The length of the ceremony will be approximately an hour and a half.
