Bridgeport has been serving students, staff, and faculty with high-quality merchandise since its grand re-opening in 1997 at Chippewa Valley Technical College. It is now a primary training ground for third-semester students in the Applied Marketing Experience class, part of the two-year Marketing degree program.

The student-run store now known as Bridgeport Gifts & Apparel originally began in 1981, but was then called Corner Crossing. It was part of the fashion merchandising program. The name Corner Crossing referred to the new main second-floor pedestrian entrance, which was part of an expansion to the District One Technical Institute -- CVTC's original name.

In 1992, when the fashion merchandising program was converted into a retail management program, the store was operated by students studying retail management. That program was phased out in 1994, and Corner Crossing closed in December 1995. The store adopted the new name when it re-opened in 1997, carrying a contemporary, quality vision of retailing.
