What is a paralegal?
- A paralegal is a paraprofessional providing legal services under the supervision and direction of an attorney or other supervisors as authorized. Paralegals, however, are not authorized to practice law.
- A paralegal is a person who is employed by a private law firm, corporate legal offices, health care institutions, insurance companies, real estate offices, financial institutions, government offices and agencies, and the military.
- A paralegal is a person who may have one of the many following representative job titles:
- Arbitrator, case coordinator, child welfare advocate, claims adjuster, compliance manager, consumer advocate, contracts administrator, court administrator, court clerk, credit investigator
- Insurance agent, investigator, land title examiner and abstractor, leasing agent, legal administrator, legal assistant, loan interviewer
- Mediator, municipal clerk, office manager, paralegal, real estate agent, senior citizen advocate, subrogation specialist, tax preparer, victim/witness advocate
What will the paralegal program degree allow me to do?
After earning your Associate of Applied Science degree at CVTC,
- You may enter the job market immediately after graduation, or
- Transfer the earned credits to a four-year college and earn your bachelor’s degree
- With your bachelor’s degree you may enter the job market or apply to law school
