When I entered the HIT program, I did so by mistake. I knew I wanted to go back to school in the medical field and was thinking about the transcription certificate CVTC offered. When online I accidently signed up for the HIT program instead, it was the best mistake I ever made! The program, more so the instructors and fellow students, molded me to who I am today. Each class taught me something new, and not just about what I was learning for HIT, something new about myself. I learned skills I can take anywhere and in any career; how to work efficiently on your own or as a team, taking an overload of information and making sense of it, or speaking to groups of people. The course builds confidence and made me a very marketable person in this field. I couldn't thank the instructors enough for all they have done. I went in for an education and left with friends I will have for the rest of my life. Oh, and the education I worked for too!
I received my RHIT credentials in May and have a wondeful job as a Health Information Manager in a local nursing home.
From 2005 Graduate--Cindy Gengler:
The HIT program is a perfect fit for a person who wants to change their life in positive ways. When I entered the program I brought along 20 yrs of work experience from a computer factory in the Chippewa Valley. I had been out of school since beauty school, back in the early 70's, so needed alot of guidance to decide what field of study was the right fit for me. I never looked back, only forward and have been on a adventure since I stood outside the door of CVTC at 5 AM to register for classes. I did not realize that no one arrives until 7 AM, so had a long wait, but I was first in line. The most valued lesson I learned through the HIT program was teamwork. The teachers made us work as teams throughout the program and what you take away from this experience is priceless in the real job market. Every job interview is full of team behavior questions, as employers know the value of teamwork in the workplace.
I received my RHIT in December and have had job offers since completing my exam.
From 2005 Graduate--Katrina Brunner:
I entered the HIT program because with the goal of finding a challenging career that was stable. I knew that any career in the medical field would fulfill that goal. I originally was looking at a job as a Medical Transcriptionist. When I met with my counselor, he gave me the idea of entering the HIT program. I had no clue what that was, but I thought it sounded interesting. As my classes got underway, I was amazed at how well I was doing and really liked the information that I was learning. I really enjoyed Medical Terminology and Medicolegal. As the semesters went by, I was becoming more and more interested in other areas of HIT such as coding. As a coder, I realized that I could make more money than a medical transcriptionist and it would be very challenging and I could learn more and more about the medical advances and technologies every day.
The HIT program has made me a more confident person, which can only aid me in my life. After I received my credentials, I also have become more marketable in the HIM field. I am so glad that I decided to enter the program.
From 2005 Graduate--Kristin Fanetti:
Believe it or not, my mother brought me to the HIT program. She knew that I wanted to work in the medical field. I enjoyed working with computers, medical information and statistical information. It is an area of high demand for job placement. The job placement in this field is consistently over 90 percent. I loved the instructors that teach the program. They all make learning fun. There was never a dull day. All the different areas of study kept everything interesting. Everything that was taught was like a real-life scenario. I enjoy the wide variety that HIM brings. Currently, I am a outpatient coder at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I never thought that I could be where I am today. Going through the program has helped me who I am today. It taught me not only the courses, but how to respect one another. The HIT program is one of a kind.
