What We Do
GED/HSED Students: Academic Services centers assist students to prepare for GED tests and the additional requirements necessary to achieve the HSED. Students who wish to study for a GED or HSED must complete the following steps prior to testing:
- Complete an assessment and pre-tests to insure test readiness
- Complete a discussion of GED and HSED completion options
- Develop a plan of action for completing the GED or the HSED
- Complete a career interests survey
- Where to prepare
- When to test
Enrolled-for-Credit Students: Academic Services centers provide access to technology resources (e.g. computers, internet access). In addition, instructors provide support services (study skills, writing skills, reading and math skills) for students who are enrolled in college courses.
Pre-Program Students: Academic Services centers assist students to achieve the basic academic credential(s) required for program entry. Students may work to develop computer skills, academic skills and study skills.
Assessment: All Academic Services centers provide assessment services for students. Students who are required to complete an academic assessment as a condition for program entry may complete their assessment at an Academic Services center. Any student who wishes to improve his/her academic skills may request an academic assessment.
Skill Improvement: A student who wishes to enhance his/her personal skills may request Academic Services. Our staff assists students to improve academic skills, develop job-seeking skills or resources (e.g. resume), or develop basic technology skills (e.g. computer skills, internet skills). Wisconsin Careers and Kuder job assessment is available and free to students.
ESL Students: Students who desire to improve their second language skills (English) may receive specialized instruction in our ESL classes. ESL students receive a comprehensive assessment in language, math and reading. Customized instruction is designed to help students improve their functional language skills and develop workplace skills.
Peer Tutoring: Peer tutoring is a free program designed to help students succeed. Students meet twice a week with a peer who has successfully completed the course.
Developmental Courses: These courses are available for those students who need additional help in their coursework or who are preparing to enter college and need to strengthen their skills in specific areas.
