Description

If you enjoy working with computer applications and have an interest in construction, consider the Architectural Structural Design Program.

As a graduate, you would be part of the team that completes the complex plans needed before construction of major buildings. Your responsibilities could cover a wide range:

  • Design and prepare site plans for residential and commercial buildings
  • Design and prepare construction documents (architectural and structural) for wood frame, masonry, concrete, and steel frame buildings
  • Design and prepare presentation drawings for proposed buildings and present ideas
  • Prepare plans, schedules, and details using AutoCAD, and Revit software systems
  • Prepare structural steel shop drawings and erection plans for commercial buildings
  • Select and prepare the required design calculations for concrete and steel beams and columns, footings, floor slabs, and open web steel joists

Your training will help you understand technical data and the proper use of construction materials:

Admissions Requirements

Admission Overview

The admissions process has been broken down into phases. Some programs only have one phase, while others have multiple phases.

Phase One: General Admission

  • If you have an international degree/diploma you must take the TOEFL® exam and receive a minimum score of 61 on the internet-based test, or 500 on the paper-based test. If you want to be included in a study group to prepare for the TOEFL exam contact Lynette Neibauer at 715-858-1892 or lneibauer@cvtc.edu.

Entrance Assessment

ACT scores (copy of score sheet required) or an Associate Degree or higher (transcript required) may be used as a substitution for the Compass test.

COMPASS Reading: 80 (required for admission)
COMPASS Writing: 60 (only used for course placement)
COMPASS Pre-Algebra: 45 (only used for course placement)
COMPASS Algebra: 35 (required for admission)
ACT Reading: 19 (required for admission)
ACT English: 18 (only used for course placement)
ACT Math: 19 (required for admission)

Phase Two

Students whose COMPASS® scores do not meet the minimum levels should meet with an academic advisor to develop a Remediation Plan which may include taking specific coursework.

Submit proof through a transcript that you have received a grade of C or better in the course(s) below: Two semesters at high school level with a "C" grade or better each semester (high school transcript) OR One semester at postsecondary level with "C" grade or better (college transcript).

Phase Three: Core Course Eligibility

Once you have successfully completed Phase One and Two you will either be accepted into your program, or placed on a waiting list if your program is full.

Applicants in the process of satisfying COMPASS® minimums and completing academic prerequisites coursework must submit a Core Course Eligibility Form (CCE Form) to the Admissions Office after all coursework is completed and grades have been processed.
