Description

If you enjoy working with computers and welcome the chance to try new applications and programs, the Information Technology-Programmer/Analyst program could be a good match for you. During your program, you will
• Develop dynamic Web and mobile applications using state-of-the-art tools: XHTML/CSS, ASP.NET, Java, JSP, JavaScript, XML/AJAX, Flash, and PHP.
• Manage data and databases using SQL, MS Access, SQL Server, and MySQL.
• Design and write computer programs using Java, C++, and Visual Basic.Net.
• Develop 3D simulation/games using latest game engines and 3D modeling software.
• Analyze business processes and apply solutions with Agile software development and industry-standard reporting tools such as SSRS and Crystal.
• Explore operating systems and platforms, including UNIX, Windows, and emerging mobile technologies.
• Develop valuable workplace skills: time management, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and environmental awareness.

The programmer/analyst track prepares you for a career in Web programming and application software development. The simulation track prepares you for a career developing 2D and 3D multimedia, simulation, games, and Web application development.

Interest in computer simulation and gaming is at an all-time high, and new computer applications are always in development. The Information Technology - Programmer/Analyst program could be what you need to turn your interest in computers into a lifelong career. Graduates of this program also have the opportunity to transfer their credits to selected four-year institutions.

Admissions Requirements

Admission Overview

The admissions process has been broken down into phases. Some programs only have one phase, while others have multiple phases.

Phase One: General Admission

  • Submit an online Application for Admission.
  • Pay the one-time $30 application processing fee.
  • Applicants must be high school graduates, or have completed the HSED or GED. Note: College policy requires applicants with an international degree/diploma to take the TOEFL® exam. Applicants must achieve a minimum score of 500 on the TOEFL® paper-based test (or 173 on the computer-based test).
  • Take the COMPASS® test. View the COMPASS® area below for minimum required scores.

COMPASS

COMPASS® is a series of untimed, computerized tests of your basic academic skills. There is a testing fee of $20. View COMPASS® website. Each program at CVTC requires different tests (i.e. Reading or Algebra) and different minimum scores. See the list below for the test and minimum score required for this program.

COMPASS Substitutions

  • An Associate Degree or higher may be used as a substitution for COMPASS®. A transcript is required showing proof of this degree.
  • Proof of ACT® scores may be substituted for COMPASS®. See the list below for required minimum scores.

Phase Two

Students whose COMPASS® scores do not meet the minimum levels should meet with a program counselor to develop a Remediation Plan which may include taking specific coursework.

Phase Three: Core Course Eligibility

Once you have successfully completed Phase One and Two you will either be accepted into your program, or placed on a waiting list if your program is full.

Applicants in the process of satisfying COMPASS® minimums and completing academic prerequisites coursework must submit a Core Course Eligibility Form (CCE Form) to the Admissions Office after all coursework is completed and grades have been processed.
