Showcase Your Agronomy Knowledge

You’re invited to attend CVTC's Agriculture Skills Contest on Tuesday, March 5th. At this fun event you'll get an opportunity to test your skills, show off your knowledge, and showcase your crops. After the event we encourage you to attend the 56th Annual Eau Claire Farm Show at the Menards Conference/Expo Center, 5150 Old Mill Plaza, Eau Claire, WI 54703.

Please arrange transportation to this event as CVTC will not provide it to or from the show. This event is for high school students; due to space constraints, there is a limit to 200 students. Pre-registration is required.

About the Contest

Dairy Advances in Reproduction and Digestion (Team Contest)

Showcase your knowledge of the dairy industry when your four person team is faced with real-life scenarios. Your knowledge will be tested at the following stations:

  • Reproduction and nutrition
  • Identification within the following categories: bovine female reproductive tract, parts of an ultrasound machine, ruminant digestive system, and heat detection and/or synchronization tools
  • Feed analysis and TMR samples
  • Cow lactation and the relationship to nutrition and/or reproduction

Prize: A plaque will be awarded to first place team.

 
Agronomy Skills Contest

Take our hands-on skills test to showcase your knowledge of agronomy and agronomy-related scenarios. The skills test will cover the following topics:

  • Agronomy equipment identifications
  • Farm machinery costs
  • Yield & soil mapping technology
  • Seed variety selection scenarios
  • Basic plant identification
  • Drones in agriculture  use
  • Agronomy math
  • Soil sampling
  • Reading a herbicide label

Prize - A plaque will be awarded to first place winner.

 
Floriculture Contest

In this contest you will identify 25 floriculture plants. You will also be given a general knowledge exam consisting of 25 multiple choice questions designed to assess your understanding of:

  • Basic principles and techniques of propagation
  • Basic growth requirements and cultural techniques for producing quality greenhouse floriculture crops
  • Basic requirements of maintaining established floriculture plants 

Prize: A plaque will be awarded to first place winner.
