Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - CVTC Eau Claire Campus - M/W & W Clinicals

CVTC and local high schools have partnered to offer incoming high school juniors and seniors who are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare an opportunity to earn high school and college credit. Dual credit academies give high school students a chance to navigate their interests and career options to develop the most successful individualized career path. Credits earned through this academy may be applied to CVTC's technical degree programs and transfer to other universities. By successfully completing this 86 - hour course and passing the CNA Certification Test (written and skills), students will have the credentials to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

The nursing assistant training course will prepare students to work as a nurse aide in the state of Wisconsin and to take the competency exam, including both a written knowledge test and a skill test. The nursing assistant course is a prerequisite for many associate degree health programs. Additionally, there are many job opportunities for certified nursing assistants (CNAs).

*Students need to be 16 years of age by the time the clinical begins.
*Covid vaccine may be required prior to clinicals or have an approved exemption.  

CNA Academy – State Mandated Attendance Requirement 

Attendance for this academy is mandatory.  In order to become certified in the State of Wisconsin, students must complete a total of 86 hours of instruction. Please communicate any planned absences with your high school and CVTC prior to the start of the academy. The absence may or may not be approved. If the absence is not approved, you may be required to drop the course. If there are any scheduling conflicts you should reach out to your instructor ASAP to see if alternative options to meet the hour requirements are available. If not, you may need to consider dropping the course. In cases of documented illnesses or emergencies, a waiver may be granted.

Following successful completion of this course, students will be prepared to work as a nurse aid in the State of Wisconsin and be able to take the competency exam. 


Course Descriptions

543 - 300 Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

This course is a combination lecture, lab, and clinical practice conducted in long - term care facilities. It covers basic body function and structure, nutrition, nursing care procedures, and ethical and legal considerations. This course is recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services as a nursing assistant training program. For successful completion you'll need to have access to a computer with an Internet hookup. This could be in your home, at a nearby library, at one of the CVTC branch campuses, or another location that is convenient for you. A Wisconsin criminal background check is required at the start of class.
