Bookeeper

CVTC and local high schools have partnered to offer incoming juniors and seniors interested in pursuing a career in routine accounting and payroll transactions the opportunity to earn high school and college credit. Dual credit academies give high school students a chance to navigate their interests and career options to develop the most successful individualized career path.

The Bookkeeper Academy will teach students accounting skills that are in great demand and students will will learn to perform routine accounting tasks, process basic financial transactions, and perform payroll operations, as well as gain experience in QuickBooks. With this credential you will advance your skills to better meet the needs of small businesses and reduce costs for accounting services.

Part of a career pathway, the Bookkeeper certificate 30 - 101 - 3 credits apply toward the Accounting associate degree if you choose to continue your education.

Students who successfully complete all 3 courses will earn a Bookkeeper Certification

Course Descriptions

Accounting 1 - 101 - 111 | 3 Credits

This course prepares the learner to understand and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to analyze, record, summarize, and interpret accounting information. The course focuses on completing the accounting cycle, including business transactions and preparing financial statements for service and merchandising businesses.

Payroll Accounting - 101 - 121 | 3 Credits

The learner will make the necessary payroll calculations and record keeping, including social security taxes, income tax withholdings, and other deductions. They will also maintain employee earnings records, record journal entries and generate payroll reports. A comprehensive payroll project is required.

Intro to QuickBooks - 101 - 149 | 2 Credits

This is a computerized accounting course where the student is expected to have a basic understanding of the accounting fundamentals to be applied to the QuickBooks bookkeeping system. The learner will post transactions within the system including receipting for cash sales and sales on account as well as purchasing on account and with cash. The learner will also perform the bank reconciliations and financial statement preparation with the QuickBooks system.
