Business Generalist

CVTC and local high schools have partnered to offer incoming juniors, and seniors interested in pursuing a career in Business the opportunity to earn high school and college credit. Dual credit academies give high school students a chance to navigate their interests and career options to develop the most successful individualized career path.

Earn your Business Generlist technical diploma through Chippewa Valley Technical College.. The Business Generalist technical diploma is an excellent way to gain a foundation in supervision, marketing, and human resources for any business setting. This one year diploma is a career pathway to the Business Management associates degree

Students who successfully complete this course will earn the Business Generalist technical diploma 30 - 102 - 5. 

Having access to a laptop is required. Chromebooks are not an acceptable device.

Course Descriptions

102 - 130 Innovative Business Mindset (3 credits) In this course, students will define the traits and mindset of entrepreneurs.  Students will use tools to determine their personal entrepreneurial traits.  Students will examine a variety of innovative companies (small, social, and global).  Students will understand the difference between entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs.  Students will evaluate existing business plans.

102 - 112 Principles of Management (3 credits) Students learn about the four managerial functions of planning, organizing, controlling, and leading in contemporary organizations. A series of self - assessment questionnaires provide insights into personal behaviors and help students turn managerial theories into potential personal managerial practices. Students learn how management processes apply to a global environment.

116 - 193 Intro to Human Resources (3 credits) In this course students will examine the role and goals the human resource management in today’s businesses. Students will learn and apply skills related to the various human resource functions, including equal employment opportunity, basic employment law concepts and diversity; job analysis, recruitment, and selection; compensation and benefits; performance management; and labor relations.

102 - 113 Leadership for Business Excellence (3 credits) This course fosters self - awareness and personal enhancement, emphasizing core communication and interpersonal skills for professional success. Through self - assessments and reflection, learners identify their strengths and area for development, interpersonal effectiveness, and personal accountability. 
103 - 170 Microsoft Excel (1 credit) This course incorporates Microsoft Office Excel skills and how it is used in academic and business environments. Students will apply software features to the successful completion of business - related projects and scenarios. 
104 - 102 Marketing Principles (3 credits) Marketing of products and services. Concentrates on product, price, place, promotion, market segmentation, target marketing, pricing. market research, physical distribution and distribution channels. 
102 - 109 Business Analytics (3 credits) Students will utilize common business software to analyze datasets present in typical business management situations, translate the analysis into business recommendations that will improve business performance, and effectively create and present analysis recommendations to decision - makers. 
102 - 113 Business Ethics (3 credits) The purpose of this course is to provide introduction to ethical decision - making in business. Topics covered include common myths about business ethics, motivations for being ethical, common ethical problems facing employees, managers, and organizations, prescriptive and psychological approaches to deciding what is right, managing for ethical conduct and managerial approaches to an ethical culture.
