CVTC, along with your school district, has partnered to offer seniors an opportunity to earn an 11 credit Patient Service Specialist Technical Diploma 30 - 509 - 2. This program is designed to prepare you for administrative roles in hospitals, clinics, or laboratories. Whether you're scheduling, appointments, managing billing, or compiling medical charts and reports, this program equips you with the skills and knowledge to excel in a fast - paced healthcare environment. Prerequisites -
- High School Biology with a C or higher or completion of CVTC's Prep for Basic Biology 836 - 113.
- General Anatomy and Physiology 806 - 177. Prerequisite High School Chemistry with a C or higher or CVTC's Prep for Baisc Chemistry 836 - 133.
- Students to not need to be 18 to take classe, but will need to be 18 before emlpoyment.

Course Descriptions
The focus of this course is the use of technology in healthcare,. Learners use common business software applications, including word processing, presentation, spreadsheets and databases. Communication methods using technology are addressed. Learners gain experience with using the electronic health record (EHR). Healthcare EHR security issues, social media use, and digital healthcare recourses are examined.
509 - 301 Medical Assistant Admin Procedures (2 Credits)
Introduces medical assistant students to office management, business administration, and the electronic medical record (EMR) in the medical office. Students learn to schedule appointments, perform filling, recordkeeping, telephone and reception duties, communicate effectively with patients and other medical office staff, and keep inventory or supplies.503 - 302 Human Body in Health & Disease (3 Credits)
Focuses on diseases that are frequently fist diagnosed and treated in the medical office setting. Students learn to recognize human anatomy and the causes, signs, and symptoms of diseases of the major body systems as well as the diagnostic procedures, usual treatment, prognosis and prevention of common diseases.509 - 307 Med Office Insurance & Finance (2 Credits)
Introduce medical assistant students to health insurance and finance in the medical office. Students perform bookkeeping procedures, apply managed care guidelines, and complete insurance claim forms.
