Pre-Nursing & Healthcare - ECASD (ECASD Students Only)
CVTC and your school district have partnered to offer high school students who are serious about pursuing a career in the medical field the opportunity to earn high school and college credit. Dual credit academies give high school students a chance to expand their career options and get a jump - start on their post - secondary credits toward a degree in healthcare. CNA is limited to 16 students.

Credentials Earned: Upon successfully completing this academy, students will have the opportunity to earn their Certified Nursing Assistant Technical Diploma, along with 13 credits that may be applied to health - related coursework for a number of CVTC programs.
Requirements
Academy Requirements
- Must be 16 years old prior to Nursing Assistant clinicals.
- Must enroll in all four courses to be accepted into the academy.
- Prerequisite: Students must have completed High School Chemistry or Prep for Basic Chemistry with a grade of C or higher.
- Covid vaccine may be required prior to clinicals or you may need an approved exemption.
CNA Academy - State Mandated Attendance Requirement
Attendance for this academy is mandatory. In order to become certified in the State of Wisconsin, students must complete a total of 86 hours of instruction. Please communicate any planned absences with your high school and CVTC prior to the start of the academy. The absence may or may not be approved. If the absence is not approved, you may be required to drop the course. If there are any scheduling conflicts you should reach out to your instructor ASAP to see if alternative options to meet the hour requirements are available. If not, you may need to consider dropping the course. In cases of documented illnesses or emergencies, a waiver may be granted.
Following successful completion of this course, students will be prepared to work as a nurse aid in the State of Wisconsin and be able to take the competency exam.

Course Descriptions
543 - 300 Nursing Assistant | 2 credits
The Nursing Assistant program prepares students for employment as nursing assistants. The program also prepares students for other health - related programs. During the 86 - hour course, students will be required to demonstrate the following skills under the supervision of a licensed nurse: communication, basic nursing assistant and personal care skills, attention to client's rights, and care of clients and dementias. The program is recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services as a nurse - aide training program. Upon successful completion of the program, the student is eligible to take the Wisconsin Nursing Assistant competency evaluation for inclusion on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry and employment in nursing homes, hospital, home health agencies, hospices, CBRF's, assistant living centers and homes for the developmentally disabled.
806 - 177 General Anatomy & Physiology | 4 credits
Prerequisites: Completed High School Chemistry or 836 - 133 Prep for Basic Chemistry with the grade of a C or higher
Examines basic concepts of human anatomy and physiology as they relate to health sciences. Using a body systems approach, the course emphasizes the interrelationships between structure and function at the gross and microscopic levels of organization of the entire human body. It is intended to prepare health care professionals who need to apply basic concepts of whole body anatomy and physiology to informed decision - making and professional communication with colleagues and patients.
806 - 179 Advanced Anatomy & Physiology | 4 credits
Prerequisite: Successfully completed 806 - 177 General Anatomy & Physiology
Advanced Anatomy and Physiology is the second semester in a two - semester sequence in which normal human anatomy and physiology are studied using a body systems approach with emphasis on the interrelationships between form and function at the gross and microscopic levels of organization. Instructional delivery within a classroom and laboratory setting. Experimentation within a science lab will include analysis of cellular metabolism, the individual components of body systems such as the nervous, neuro - muscular, cardiovascular, and urinary. Continued examination of homeostatic mechanisms and their relationship to fluid, electrolyte, acid - base balance and blood. Integration of genetics to human reproduction and development are also included in this course.
809 - 188 Developmental Psychology | 3 credits
This is the study of human development throughout the lifespan. This course explores developmental theory and research with an emphasis on the interactive nature of the biological, cognitive, and psychosocial changes that affect the individual from conception to death. Application activities and critical thinking skills will enable students to gain increased knowledge and understanding of themselves and others. It is recommended that either Intro to Psychology (809 - 198) or Psychology of Human Relations (809 - 199) be completed before taking this course.
