EMR/EMT 1 - CVTC Eau Claire Campus (Evenings)
CVTC and local high schools have partnered to offer students who are at least 16 years old and interested in pursuing a career in healthcare an opportunity to earn high school and college credit. Dual credit academies give high school students a chance to navigate their interests and career options to develop the most successful individualized career path. Credits earned through this academy may be applied to CVTC programs and transfer to other colleges.
The Emergency Medical Responder course prepares EMR students to provide prehospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles and responsibilities of EMR’s, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma, and special considerations for working in the prehospital setting.
Credentials Earned: Upon successful completion, candidates will be eligible to apply for Wisconsin EMR licensure.

- Age Requirements: Must be 16 years old
- Grade Requirement: To be considered as completing the academy successfully, students must earn a grade of 80% or higher
- Technology Requirements: Access to a laptop (not a Chromebook) is required for EMT.

Course Descriptions
531 - 100 EMR/EMT 1 | 3 credits
Provides the foundational knowledge for future Emergency Medical Technicians and Emergency Medical Responders. Topics include: basic human anatomy, performing a patient assessment, traumatic injury management, airway management, and Basic Life Support cardiac resuscitation. Upon successful completion, candidates will be eligible to participate in the National Registry of EMTs Emergency Medical Responder exams for Wisconsin EMR certification.
