Beekeeping for Beginners

New to beekeeping and want hands-on training from an experienced beekeeper?
This one credit, 32-hour course will cover the basics to help you maintain a healthy and productive hive! Learn about the different types of bees, hives, and management techniques. Attendees will also have the opportunity for lab times to work beehives.

All students are required to bring their own or purchase protective equipment and have the option of purchasing a hive and bee colony. The CVTC bee apiary is located at the Energy Education Center. The location is a fenced in apiary that is dedicated to beekeeping education and located off a paved road for ease of accessibility.

Course Details

Dates: Saturdays, March 23 - October 19, 2019
During the summer, an open lab will be available on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. – noon. Our instructor will be available every week, weather permitting. Students only need to attend 16 hours of open lab time between May 4 and October 5 for colony inspection and routine maintenance. This schedule is designed to allow flexibility for students.

Time: Class times vary based on the week and weather. A schedule will be created upon the start of the course.

Cost: $147 (estimated tuition & fees)
Kit costs and options will be discussed at first meeting, so everyone is making an informed decision.

Age Requirements: Attendees should be at least in 6th grade or older. Each participant will be charged tuition.

Beyond Beekeeping

Ready to take your beekeeping skills to a more advanced level?
CVTC is excited to offer the brand new Beyond Beekeeping course!

This one-credit, 16-hour continuing education course will cover all the aspects of beekeeping that occur apart from the apiary. This course can be taken after Beekeeping for Beginners or along-side of it.

Get hands-on training at the beautiful, state-of-the-art CVTC bee apiary. Located at the Energy Education Center, we offer a fenced-in space that is dedicated to beekeeping education.

Dates: October 5, 12, 19, & 26, 2019
Time: 8 a.m.–12 p.m.
Cost: $154
Length of Course: 16 hours
Age Requirements: Attendees should be at least in 6th grade or older. Each participant will be charged tuition.
