Is CVTC’s Machine Tooling Technics program right for you? Let’s take a look at what you can expect and the opportunities available to you.

You Can Succeed

Are you comfortable working with your hands, but also embrace new technology that helps you do your work better? Do you have good attention to detail, but also like to think creatively? Today’s machinists work in an environment much different than their predecessors a generation ago. They design parts on computers, then set up and program Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines that produce parts with amazing accuracy and tolerances. But their creative thinking and skill is an important part of the process, making the most skilled machinists extremely valuable in today’s manufacturing environments.

And those top machinists have good communication skills that help them understand what the shop’s customers need and work closely with their fellow shop workers. They work with their minds as well as their hands and see positive, physical results from their labors each day.

If you are ready to use your skills in a high-demand career that can be personally and financially rewarding, you can find success through CVTC’s Machine Tooling Technics program.

Opportunities Abound

The Chippewa Valley has an extremely strong machining industry with a high level of competition among employers for machinists. Graduates of CVTC’s Machine Tooling Technics program find careers as:

  • CNC operators
  • CNC programmers
  • Machine set-up specialists
  • Tool & Die makers
  • Machinists
  • Tool room managers

You’ll be in Demand

CVTC Machine Tooling Technics graduates are so much in demand, employers don’t wait until the students graduate to recruit them. Many begin working for a shop part-time while they go to school, sometimes with their new employer helping with tuition costs.

“We hire them as machinists and floaters who can operate machines or float into other departments,” said Elisia Gonsowski of Riverside Machine in Eau Claire. “Post-graduation, we’re hiring them as machinists. They run CNC machines, turning machines, and Swiss machines. The CVTC students are awesome. They have a good foundation for us to continue building on.”

“CVTC graduates have the skill sets that we need in manufacturing today,” said Matt Guse, owner of MRS Machining in Augusta. “I went through the program myself. We hire CVTC graduates mostly as machinists and engineers. They’re running from two to seven-axis machines and do a lot of multi-tasking.”
