CVTC colleague brings piece of 9/11 history to College
A piece of September 11, 2001, history now has a permanent place at CVTC’s Emergency Service Education Center.
Two steel column bolts, originally used to hold together steel columns from one of the World Trade Center’s north or south towers, recently were donated to CVTC by the Greenville Fire Department. The bolts had been part of the department’s September 11 display and were made available as Greenville prepares to relocate its own memorial.
For Mark Schwartz, CVTC director of Fire & Emergency Medical Services Training, bringing a piece of 9/11 history to campus has been years in the making.
“I have always wanted to have a 9/11 tribute item here,” Schwartz said.
After learning that the program providing World Trade Center steel had ended, Schwartz searched for a Wisconsin fire department willing to share a piece of its memorial. The Greenville Fire Department, in eastern Wisconsin, had two bolts available and generously donated them to CVTC.
The bolts are now displayed in a shadow box in the Emergency Service Education Center corridor, providing students and visitors with a tangible connection to a day that changed the nation.
“It’s really important,” Schwartz said. “Twenty-five years ago, now, a lot of these students weren’t even alive. So, they can actually look at something that was part of that day.”
